Coke and Coke by-products are produced in the coke making which is an important step in the iron-making process. The production of by-products in a by-product plant includes the processing of coke oven gasses to remove tar, ammonia, phenol, naphthalene, light oil, and Sulphur. Clean coke oven gas is then used for heating the reheating furnaces at different locations.

This module will help the participants to understand the basic process flow of the coke making and different products produced in the process. It also equips the participants to learn the use and characteristics of the by-products and their extraction process.
